Brave Bafana shrug off travel challenges to share the spoils with Nigeria in tense away qualifier

Bafana Bafana shrugged off travel challenges to draw 1-1 with Nigeria during a pulsating 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday night.

Themba Zwane opened the scoring for the visitors in the 29th minute with a delightful finish after a superb pass from Yaya Sithole.

But Nigeria equalized through Faruq Dele-Bashiru early in the second half to level the scores.Despite the long journey spanning over 30 hours, Bafana Bafana took the game to their hosts from the start and will feel they could have won the match. Goalkeeper Ronwen Williams made crucial saves to ensure South Africa returned home with a point.

The draw sets up an intriguing clash between the two nations in the return fixture. Bafana Bafana next face Zimbabwe in Bloemfontein on Tuesday, June 11. Tickets for the match at the Free State Stadium are now available, with adult tickets priced at R50 and concessions at R20.
