The other day, I was lounging in bed, watching back-to-back Good Hang With Amy Poehler<\/a> episode clips, as one does. During her interview with Tom Holland<\/a>, the British actor admitted something that made me laugh out loud\u2026<\/p>\n

For his upcoming movie Spiderman: Brand New Day<\/em>, Holland plays NYC-born-and-raised Peter Parker. But while rehearsing scenes, Holland kept getting stuck on a cultural difference. \u201cIn England, [when you order food] you say, \u2018Please, may I have the burger with number two? Thank you so much, please. Thank you, thank you, thank you,’\u201d says Holland. \u201cAnd in America, it\u2019s totally fine to be like, \u2018I\u2019ll have the number two,\u2019 and just leave it at that\u2026I would be doing scenes and my dialect coach would come in and be like \u2018Stop saying \u2018please.\u2019 A kid from New York\u2019s not going to be saying please if you\u2019re asking for a burger.\u2019<\/p>\n

So, in the end, what did he do? Our dear Holland went against his UK grain and stuck to the script. <\/p>\n

\u201cYou can see this moment in the movie where someone asks me for a coffee and I just go \u2018Sure,’\u201d laughs Tom. \u201cAnd even through the suit, you can see that I\u2019m like, My dad is going to be so<\/em> disappointed in meeeee.<\/em>\u201d <\/p>\n

Honestly, I get it! As a 33-year-old, I still follow certain rules that my mother engrained into my very being. Here are a few:<\/p>\n

* If I ever meet someone who greets me in Spanish, I must<\/em> follow my hola<\/em> with a \u00bfC\u00f3mo est\u00e1s?<\/em> (\u2018How are you?\u2019), even though my Spanish is too limited to continue the conversation after that.
* Always hold the door open for the person walking behind you, even if that means standing there for 30 awkward second waiting for them.
* Brush your teeth AS SOON AS YOU WAKE UP. No ifs, ands, or buts.<\/p>\n
