Most Americans don\u2019t trust AI<\/a>. It\u2019s proven that it doesn\u2019t know what safe toppings<\/a> for pizza are. People don\u2019t even want to listen to AI music<\/a>. But none of that matters for some of America\u2019s wealthy, who are turning to AI to teach their kids instead of traditional schools.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Companies like Forge Prep and Alpha School are charging families tens of thousands of dollars to turn their kids into beta testers for AI tutors and \u201cinteractive project-based workshops.\u201d Unsurprisingly, Silicon Valley have been major adopters of this new model. Shaun Johnson, a San Francisco-based venture capitalist, told the Wall Street Journal<\/em><\/a> that he plans to send his son to a $75,000 year Alpha Kindergarten. He said, \u201cWe recognize that education is likely broken the way it is and there\u2019s going to be entrepreneurs that try to fix it\u2026 You want someone to be able to think on their feet and navigate the world, not necessarily a recitation of facts in a particular discipline.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Ignoring Johnson\u2019s fundamental lack of understanding about modern pedagogy, it\u2019s unclear how notoriously sycophantic<\/a> AI will train children to \u201cthink on their feet and navigate the world.\u201d It\u2019s also concerning that Alpha School co-founder MacKenzie Price has said she plans to keep \u201chot-button social issues<\/a>\u201d out of the classroom. Which, in the current political climate, could cover women\u2019s rights, America\u2019s history of slavery, and our immigrant past. That might not seem like a major issue when you\u2019re talking about kindergarten, but in some locations, Alpha School goes through high school.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Companies like Forge also don\u2019t share performance metrics, so there\u2019s no evidence that these AI-guided private schools are improving educational outcomes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
