In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/28492533-us-v-wilkins\/\">the complaint<\/a>, officials accuse 21-year-old Zyaire Wilkins and co-conspirators of launching eight malware-embedded games from around May 2024 to February 2026, allowing them to infect about 8,000 devices and gain access to 80 crypto wallets.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Though the complaint doesn\u2019t specifically say the games were uploaded to Steam, it\u2019s likely referring to the Valve-owned gaming platform. As noted by <em>Local10<\/em>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.fbi.gov\/victims\/Steam_Malware\">FBI put out a call for victim information<\/a> in a \u201cSteam malware investigation\u201d that includes the games listed in the lawsuit, including <em>BlockBlasters<\/em>, <em>Chemia<\/em>, <em>Dashverse\/DashFPS<\/em>, <em>Lampy<\/em>, <em>Lunara<\/em>, <em>PirateFi<\/em>, and <em>Tokenova<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcmag.com\/news\/did-you-download-this-steam-game-sorry-its-windows-malware\">several outlets<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/go.skimresources.com\/?id=1025X1701640&amp;xs=1&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.malwarebytes.com%2Fblog%2Fnews%2F2025%2F07%2Fsteam-games-abused-to-deliver-malware-once-again%3Fx-clickref%3D1100lDfsSrXC\" rel=\"sponsored\">also reported<\/a> on Steam\u2019s removal of some of these cryptostealing games, such as <em>Blockblasters<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/782993\/steam-blockblasters-crypto-scam-malware\">which took more than $150,000 from victims<\/a>, including a streamer raising funds for their cancer treatment. The lawsuit is also filed in a Washington court, where Valve is based. Valve didn\u2019t immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">The complaint alleges Wilkins and co-conspirators \u201cmarketed the malware-embedded video games on social media and messaging platforms, such as Discord, Telegram, X \/ Twitter, and LinkedIn, and encouraged others to download the games.\u201d From there, authorities allege the conspirators used the malware to steal their victims\u2019 private information and drain their crypto wallets.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Federal agents linked Wilkins to the case after obtaining his crypto wallet address in messages with an alleged co-conspirator. They traced the crypto address to an account on Bitrefill, a site where users can purchase gift cards with crypto.
