That includes a $1 million donation to MAGA Inc., the Trump-centric super PAC, and $1.1 million to other super PACs dedicated to electing Republicans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">From 2020 through the end of 2024, the company donated more than $1.6 million to conservative PACs, including a total of $850,000 to AFP Action, an anti-regulation super PAC with <a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2018\/09\/10\/koch-network-unveils-new-super-pac-as-fight-for-congress-heats-up.html\" class=\"external-link text link\" data-event-click=\"{&quot;element&quot;:&quot;ExternalLink&quot;,&quot;outgoingURL&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2018\/09\/10\/koch-network-unveils-new-super-pac-as-fight-for-congress-heats-up.html&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2018\/09\/10\/koch-network-unveils-new-super-pac-as-fight-for-congress-heats-up.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ties to<\/a> the Koch network.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Bruce Taylor, the chairman and CEO of Taylor Farms, is also a longtime donor to Republican causes. Since 2020, Taylor has personally donated more than $900,000 to Republican PACs and candidates, including contributions to Texas senator John Cornyn and Tennessee senator Marsha Blackburn.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Like many corporate giants, Taylor Farms has also spent big on lobbying related to industry regulation. In early 2025, it hired lobbyists at the firm Sidley Austin to advocate on behalf of the company on \u201cregulation of food safety,\u201d according to disclosure documents. The company recently claimed that the FDA \u201capologized\u201d after announcing a false-positive test of a sample of Taylor Farms\u2019 lettuce; the FDA told reporters that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/taylor-farms-fda-explosive-diarrhea-tweets\/\" class=\"text link\">no, actually, an official apology never happened<\/a>. (The company did not respond to WIRED\u2019s requests for comment.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Prior to the false positive and the non-apology, Taylor Farms executives met with White House and FDA officials to discuss what a spokesperson for the company called \u201cshortfalls\u201d in the government agencies\u2019 response. <a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/07\/17\/health\/cyclospora-taylor-farms-mexico-taco-bell-lettuce.html\" class=\"external-link text link\" data-event-click=\"{&quot;element&quot;:&quot;ExternalLink&quot;,&quot;outgoingURL&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/07\/17\/health\/cyclospora-taylor-farms-mexico-taco-bell-lettuce.html&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/07\/17\/health\/cyclospora-taylor-farms-mexico-taco-bell-lettuce.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The New York Times reported<\/a> that the meeting followed Taylor Farms\u2019 recent hire of Trent Morse, the former deputy director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office, who left the Trump administration to start a government relations firm in September.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">The recent diarrhea debacle is not the first time that Taylor Farms, which brings in roughly $7 billion in annual revenue, has drawn the focus of federal regulators.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">In 2013, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/files\/food\/published\/Environmental-Assessment--2013-Cyclosporiasis-outbreak-in-Iowa-and-Nebraska-%E2%80%93-Findings-and-Recommendations.pdf\" class=\"text link\">the FDA<\/a> named Taylor Farms as a source of a cyclospora outbreak that sickened hundreds. <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.cdc.gov\/www_cdc_gov\/ecoli\/2015\/o157h7-11-15\/advice-consumers.html\" class=\"text link\">In 2015,<\/a> the company voluntarily recalled multiple products containing celery because they may have been contaminated with <em>E. coli<\/em>. And <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/food\/outbreaks-foodborne-illness\/outbreak-investigation-e-coli-o157h7-onions-october-2024\" class=\"text link\">in 2024,<\/a> the company recalled certain yellow onions as part of an <em>E. coli<\/em> outbreak linked to McDonald\u2019s Quarter Pounders. Following the outbreak, <a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/fda-report-e-coli-outbreak-onions-taylor-farms\/\" class=\"external-link text link\" data-event-click=\"{&quot;element&quot;:&quot;ExternalLink&quot;,&quot;outgoingURL&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/fda-report-e-coli-outbreak-onions-taylor-farms\/&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/fda-report-e-coli-outbreak-onions-taylor-farms\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CBS News<\/a> reported that FDA inspectors found dozens of violations at the Colorado Taylor Farms facility linked to the Quarter Pounder outbreak, including minimal handwashing and dirty equipment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Since 2025, the FDA has inspected 18 American plants affiliated with Taylor Farms. Three resulted in \u201cvoluntary action indicated,\u201d which means that while violations were found, they weren\u2019t severe enough to warrant mandatory enforcement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited at least 21 violations in Taylor Farms facilities across the US since the start of 2025. In one particularly gruesome case, the Department of Labor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dol.gov\/newsroom\/releases\/osha\/osha20251124\" class=\"text link\">fined a New Jersey facility $1.1 million<\/a> due to violations.
