The finding follows a story from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-07-21\/apple-to-launch-upgrade-device-leasing-program-with-klarna-to-spur-sales\"><em>Bloomberg<\/em><\/a> earlier this week claiming Apple is preparing to launch a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/tech\/968750\/apple-upgrade-program\">\u201cApple Upgrade\u201d<\/a> financing program for leasing new devices.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">iPhones in \u201cRestricted Mode\u201d would reportedly lose access to nearly all apps, except for basics like the Phone app, Settings, and the App Store. It uses a new \u201cApp Managed Features\u201d system that allows financing or partner apps to continually check if a financed device is in good standing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">According to <em>9to5Mac<\/em>, the code also includes a new \u201cPartner Finance Lock\u201d intended to block users from \u201cerasing, reselling, or stripping a restricted device for parts.\u201d While the feature is part of Find My, it reportedly doesn\u2019t give financing partners access to the phone\u2019s location.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">This is from a beta version of iOS 27, so it\u2019s possible this code and the new \u201cRestricted Mode\u201d could get changed or removed before Apple officially releases iOS 27. The \u201cApple Upgrade\u201d program hasn\u2019t been officially announced yet, either.
