During a briefing, Ashley Alexander, OpenAI\u2019s vice president of health product, says the company\u2019s models \u201care now capable of reasoning at levels that are better than clinician level.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">When asked for more information about how the performance of OpenAI\u2019s models stacks up against human clinicians, OpenAI health lead Karan Singhal says that he would \u201ctemper\u201d the claim that they are reasoning at better levels, but that \u201cthere have been individual studies that have been pointing in that direction,\u201d like this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harvardmagazine.com\/ai\/ai-outperforms-doctors-diagnosis-harvard-study\">one from Harvard and Stanford<\/a>. On Wednesday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/07\/22\/well\/openai-chatgpt-health-lawsuit.html\">a Florida pastor sued OpenAI<\/a> over claims ChatGPT provided him with \u201cextremely dangerous medical recommendations,\u201d allegedly leading him to put off medical care for a pulmonary embolism.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">The broader release of ChatGPT Health comes just weeks after OpenAI <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/ai-artificial-intelligence\/957845\/openai-gpt-5-6-trump-administration-ai-preview\">launched its new GPT-5.6 Sol<\/a>, which it claims is its \u201cstrongest model yet for health.\u201d ChatGPT Health will run on the company\u2019s latest models.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">With this update, OpenAI will now allow users to ask questions about their connected medical information in the main chat experience, rather than having them navigate to the dedicated ChatGPT Health tab. ChatGPT will ask for permission before using your health information to personalize its response, adding that \u201call conversations are encrypted at rest and at transit,\u201d while information connected in Health \u201creceives additional encryption protection.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Users can also review and change the kinds of health data they connect to ChatGPT, including post-visit notes, notes from their care team, lab results, and medications. Currently, users can connect their data from health providers, along with services like Apple Health, Weight Watchers, MyFitnessPal, and Function.
