In a memo obtained by <em>The Verge<\/em>, Sharma told staff by the end of fiscal year 2027 (which runs through next June), \u201cwe will return XBOX to player and revenue growth.\u201d Xbox will also \u201cimprove profits back in line with industry averages,\u201d Sharma said. \u201cEvery function and studio will own part of that outcome.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Since taking over Xbox in February, Sharma has made <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/961546\/xbox-layoffs-studio-sales-2026\">sweeping changes<\/a> to attempt to turn things around. Previously, she has <a href=\"https:\/\/news.xbox.com\/en-us\/2026\/06\/10\/next-100-days-xbox-reset\/\">cited challenges<\/a> like a low accountability margin, increasing component costs for hardware, an \u201cover extended\u201d slate of studios, and platform infrastructure that\u2019s \u201cnot built for the battle ahead.\u201d In addition to the major structural changes, Xbox made <em>Gears of War: E-Day<\/em> and <em>Clockwork Revolution<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/report\/945639\/xbox-exclusives-strategy-complicated-confusing\">Xbox console exclusives<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamesradar.com\/games\/xbox-return-to-console-exclusivity-report\/\">is planning to do more<\/a>. Sharma has also set an ambitious and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/entertainment\/961924\/xbox-billion-users\">nearly impossible goal<\/a> to make Xbox \u201cone of the few companies that entertains more than a billion people each day.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">In Thursday\u2019s memo, Sharma laid out four Xbox priorities for fiscal year 2027:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<blockquote class=\"duet--article--blockquote _1lkuyz80 _19wv7tc9\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup _1lkuyz88 _19wv7tc1\">CORE: Strengthen our platform, led by console<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup _1lkuyz88 _19wv7tc1\">CONTENT: Grow great games into global franchises<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup _1lkuyz88 _19wv7tc1\">CREATION: Make Minecraft the world\u2019s creator platform<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup _1lkuyz88 _19wv7tc1\">CONNECTION: Extend the worlds that fans love<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Xbox will measure progress toward its goals in three \u201cstages,\u201d Sharma said. The first is to return to growth by the end of fiscal year 2027. The second is to turn its bets into growth; \u201cIn FY28 and FY29, our Four C\u2019s and roadmap must move into businesses producing meaningful player value and revenue acceleration.\u201d The third is to \u201cscale what works,\u201d and by fiscal year 2030, \u201cour ambition is to be halfway to our long-term daily-player goal with sustained double-digit growth in players and engagement and industry leading margins.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Sharma shared some vague numbers about Xbox\u2019s current playerbase. \u201cXBOX is one of the largest stadiums in the world, bringing together more than 100 million people every day, more than 500 million each month, and nearly one billion each year,\u201d she wrote. She also noted that console \u201cgenerates the majority of XBOX revenue and remains the foundation of our fandom\u201d and that it is still Xbox\u2019s \u201cflagship experience.\u201d Xbox\u2019s OS, Game Pass, Windows, and streaming \u201cbecome our platform for new players and developers.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">The company is also shifting its studio system from a decentralized model to one that\u2019s \u201cmore focused around our strongest franchises and biggest new ideas,\u201d Sharma said \u2014 something that\u2019s already become evident with changes like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/entertainment\/966724\/fallout-5-bethesda\">big new <em>Fallout<\/em> push<\/a>. Xbox will build \u201clong-term plans\u201d for its biggest franchises \u201cacross film, television, consumer products, sponsorship, live experiences, and form new partnerships globally, including China.\u201d Three Xbox franchises \u201calready generate more than $1 billion annually,\u201d though Sharma doesn\u2019t specify which those are.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">To grow its share in casual games, Xbox plans to lean on <em>Candy Crush<\/em>-maker King as well as Microsoft Causal Games, Sharma said.
