The tool essentially let users create AI deepfakes of the real world using text prompts; <em>Digital Digging<\/em>\u2019s Henk van Ess, for example, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitaldigging.org\/p\/how-to-plant-a-nuclear-plant-in-iran\">intentionally generated<\/a> images adding things like refugees near the Mexican border and a bomb crater by a hospital in Gaza. On Thursday, Google\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NewsFromGoogle\/status\/2083024627761082702?s=20\">initial response<\/a> to van Ess noted that images generated with Nano Banana 2 in Google Earth included a digital watermark and that the company prevented \u201cimage creation on harmful topics.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">One day later, Google\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NewsFromGoogle\/status\/2083249962150760610?s=20\">new statement<\/a> says that \u201cWe know that people uniquely trust Google Earth for a reliable view of the world. We\u2019ve seen geospatial professionals using this feature for a range of useful purposes, however we\u2019ve also seen people sharing screenshots of generated imagery that appear to violate our policies. So we\u2019re rolling back this feature in Google Earth while we work on implementing stronger guardrails.
