Amid the flurry of today\u2019s Google I\/O announcements, Google shared details about Wear OS 7<\/a>, the next major update to its smartwatch platform. To help you keep track of things like deliveries and sports scores, Wear OS 7 will get the iPhone-style Live Updates that were introduced on Android last year<\/a> \u2014 which can appear on your watch or your smartphone \u2014 and you\u2019ll also be able to track automated tasks that an AI is working on right from your watch.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Wear OS is also getting an upgrade from its widget-like Tiles for glanceable information. With the new update, Google is adding \u201cWear Widgets\u201d to the platform, which look more like Android widgets and can appear in small or large layouts that \u201calign perfectly\u201d with Android\u2019s 2×1 and 2×2 widget formats. There are some AI-powered features coming to Wear OS 7 as well, including the introduction of Gemini Intelligence, Google\u2019s catch-all branding<\/a> for personalized and proactive Gemini features, on \u201cselect watches\u201d launching \u201clater this year.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Google is also promising an \u201cup to\u201d 10 percent improvement in battery life for average users if you\u2019re upgrading from Wear OS 6 to Wear OS 7. The company says that it\u2019s investing in \u201cpower optimizations\u201d so that users can \u201cdo more with their favorite apps,\u201d but we\u2019ll have to wait and see how battery life actually shakes out when Wear OS 7 is actually available.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
