And all the bad ones are like, \u201cwhy isn\u2019t there any conflict, this show is too happy,\u201d which I count as a good review anyway. Johnson\u2019s latest, a story about how Anthony Bourdain got his start as a chef, has gotten good reviews and is very much at the intersection of all my interests.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"irzhn81\"><span class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup\"><a href=\"https:\/\/go.skimresources.com\/?id=1025X1701640&amp;xs=1&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fplay.google.com%2Fstore%2Fapps%2Fdetails%3Fid%3Dcom.sunbird.apps\" rel=\"sponsored\"><strong>Sunbird<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong> \u201ciMessage for Android\u201d is one of those ideas that just won\u2019t quit, and now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/tech\/975563\/imessage-android-sunbird\">Sunbird is back<\/a> with big promises about fixing its previous security issues. After months of promises and more months of beta tests, one of the most powerful note-taking apps is officially shipping to Android devices everywhere. I haven\u2019t used it a ton, but so far it\u2019s stable and fast \u2014 it\u2019s a particularly big win if you\u2019re the handwriting type.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"irzhn81\"><span class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup\"><a href=\"https:\/\/us.super-groupies.com\/products\/dreamcast-model-watch-sega-video-game-consoles\"><strong>The Sega Dreamcast Watch<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong> From Sega and SuperGroupies comes an extremely rad series of watches designed like old consoles. You can also get the Mega Drive and the Sega Saturn models, but for me there\u2019s no beating the color pop of the Dreamcast\u2019s controls. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joanwestenberg.com\/\"><strong>JA Westenberg<\/strong><\/a> is one of those people who always seems to be blogging about what I\u2019m thinking about. \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/westenberg\/i-deleted-my-second-brain-b7a65bce3717\"><strong>I Deleted My Second Brain<\/strong><\/a>\u201d still rattles around my head whenever I\u2019m needlessly fiddling with a note-taking app, I used the word \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.joanwestenberg.com\/p\/stop-trying-to-build-a-unicorn-start\"><strong>cockroachmaxxing<\/strong><\/a>\u201d unironically in conversation the other day, and I\u2019m forever jealous of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joanwestenberg.com\/p\/why-every-youtube-channel-looks-the\"><strong>the insight<\/strong><\/a> that YouTube \u201clooks increasingly like a single show with five million hosts.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">They\u2019ve also built a couple of really cool productivity-adjacent apps, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kerouacapp.com\/\"><strong>Kerouac<\/strong><\/a> (which is basically like that GitHub commit chart but for writing) and recently <a href=\"https:\/\/postthroughit.com\/\"><strong>Post Through It<\/strong><\/a>, which is basically a journaling app that looks like a private Twitter. Clever!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Anyway, I asked JA to share their homescreen to see if they might have other sneaky tips up their sleeve, or more awesome apps to show. duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\"><strong>The wallpaper: <\/strong>My wallpaper is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/artanddesign\/2026\/mar\/21\/death-power-and-paranoia-painting-that-shocked-german-society-finally-returns-to-berlin\"><strong><em>Mors Imperator<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (\u201cDeath Is the Ruler\u201d), by the German artist Hermione von Preuschen. It\u2019s on display in Berlin right now and I fell in love with it on a recent trip. She was famously banned from displaying it, and instead rented a house and charged an entry fee to see it. Very punk rock \/ DIY for the 1800s.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\"><strong>The apps: Insight <\/strong>Timer, Beeper, Spotify, Pocket Casts, Buffer, Cursor, 1Password, Replit, Termius, Granola, Kilo, Kerouac, Post Through It, Buzz, Wikipedia, Marvel Unlimited, Linear, Medium, GenZD, The New York Times, Obsidian, Vimcal, Readwise Reader, Kobo.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">My home screen is a mix of reading, working, playing etc. I definitely want to call out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kerouacapp.com\/\"><strong>Kerouac<\/strong><\/a> (a writing studio for pro bloggers) and <a href=\"https:\/\/postthroughit.com\/\"><strong>Post Through It<\/strong><\/a> (microblogging for one) which are PWAs of the apps I launched this year. I\u2019m a big believer in web apps as a way to avoid app store gatekeeping, so I\u2019m on a mission to make the PWAs of my own tools as top-notch as they can be, which means using them every day myself.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">I keep the <a href=\"https:\/\/go.skimresources.com\/?id=1025X1701640&amp;xs=1&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.kobo.com%2Fus%2Fen%2Fp%2Fapps\" rel=\"sponsored\"><strong>Kobo<\/strong><\/a> app in my dock so I push myself to read an actual book instead of doomscrolling; and I don\u2019t keep any social media apps installed. If I want to post, I have <a href=\"https:\/\/buffer.com\/\"><strong>Buffer<\/strong><\/a> on my home screen, and it\u2019s connected to my <a href=\"https:\/\/hermes-agent.nousresearch.com\/\"><strong>Hermes<\/strong><\/a> agent via MCP anyway. I use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beeper.com\/\"><strong>Beeper<\/strong><\/a> to manage my chats across Discord, Slack, Telegram, Signal, WhatsApp, etc; it\u2019s a fantastic tool that probably rescues me from chat hell a thousand times a day.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/yoshisuga.github.io\/\"><strong>GenZD<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/marvel.sjv.io\/c\/482924\/1994950\/24536?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.marvel.com%2Funlimited\" rel=\"sponsored\"><strong>Marvel Unlimited<\/strong><\/a> are my favorites. The first is a GZDoom client for playing <em>Doom 1<\/em> and<em> Doom 2<\/em>, <em>Heretic<\/em>, <em>Hexen,<\/em> and their mods (3D shooters from the \u201990s). The other is Marvel\u2019s digital comics app, where I\u2019m attempting to read every Spider-Man story since the inception of the character. A wild story of leveraged buyouts, Wall Street excess, and the unhinged market economics of the 1980s. An absolute page turner, even if you\u2019re not usually interested in the subject matter.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"irzhn81\"><span class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup\">My brother has started us on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.daggerheart.com\/\"><strong><em>Daggerheart<\/em><\/strong><\/a> campaign. It\u2019s a tabletop RPG that came out last year, with a heavy emphasis on storytelling, and it\u2019s the freshest take on roleplaying I\u2019ve experienced in a while.
