{"id":5430,"date":"2026-08-13T04:01:32","date_gmt":"2026-08-13T04:01:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/silvybrand.com\/?p=5430"},"modified":"2026-08-13T04:01:32","modified_gmt":"2026-08-13T04:01:32","slug":"linkedin-grindset-tattoo-guy-explains-himself","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/silvybrand.com\/?p=5430","title":{"rendered":"The Job-Interview Tattoo Guy Everyone Got Mad at Finally Explains Himself"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span class=\"lead-in-text-callout\">Jordan Zietz wants<\/span> to be clear: He has never, and will never, force anyone to tattoo his startup\u2019s logo on their body.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">The 24-year-old briefly became the internet\u2019s most hated person after LemonLime, his AI-for-small-business <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/category\/business\/startups\/\" class=\"text link\">startup<\/a>, hosted a party following Y Combinator&#8217;s Startup School in late July. In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/tag\/linkedin\/\" class=\"text link\">LinkedIn<\/a> post, Zietz wrote that he brought an \u201cactual tattoo artist\u201d to the party and \u201coffered an instant interview to anyone who got a LemonLime tattoo.\u201d Seven people, Zietz wrote, left with ink.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">The backlash was quick. Zietz\u2019s LinkedIn posts were flooded with angry comments calling him \u201cdisgusting\u201d and \u201cvery unfair,\u201d the perpetrator of a \u201ctextbook display of predatory corporate behavior, a gross abuse of power, and a profound violation of professional ethics.\u201d A screenshot of his post went viral on X. One representative response read: \u201cThe job market cannot be this cooked that kids have to get permanent tattoos to get interviews.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">In an interview with WIRED on Tuesday, Zietz attempted to set the record straight.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">He says that, despite what his original post suggested, no one permanently branded themselves with LemonLime\u2019s corporate logo at the party. While there were predesigned tattoos of lemons and limes, attendees could pick any design. (<a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/x.com\/dimpleamithag\/status\/2082780926430605803\" class=\"external-link text link\" data-event-click=\"{&quot;element&quot;:&quot;ExternalLink&quot;,&quot;outgoingURL&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/x.com\/dimpleamithag\/status\/2082780926430605803&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/dimpleamithag\/status\/2082780926430605803\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">At least one<\/a> said she got a personal tattoo; she added that she was \u201cnot seeking a job.\u201d) According to Zietz, he told everyone at the party that getting a tattoo\u2014citrus-themed or otherwise\u2014was not a job requirement. In fact, he says, any attendee who wanted an interview got one.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">\u201cA decent amount of people who got tattoos never wanted to even take us up on any offer to chat\u201d about a job, Zietz says. \u201cThey just wanted to get a tattoo for free.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Three of LemonLime\u2019s five employees received LemonLime-themed flash tattoos, including Zietz and his cofounder, Daniela Mu\u00f1oz. So did at least one person who didn\u2019t work for the startup, according to Zietz.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">On Monday, Zietz got his second tattoo in less than month: the actual LemonLime logo, on his other shoulder. It is one of many. He got his first ever tattoo on a first date, and his thigh tattoos include a dinosaur doodle and text that says \u201cThis Is The Correct Knee,\u201d with an X underneath.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">\u201cI would never ask anyone to do something I would not do myself,\u201d Zietz says, while emphasizing, again, that he is the only person, to his knowledge, with the actual logo tattooed on his body. He plans to release a glossy video of himself getting the tattoo on social media.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Though Zietz insists the tattoos weren\u2019t a prerequisite for employment at his startup, you\u2019d be forgiven for assuming that was the case, and the language of his LinkedIn post certainly made people think it was. After reading various angry comments and posts, he says he understands why people were uncomfortable with the power dynamic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Still, part of the reason Zietz hired the tattoo artist was to identify candidates who would be a good cultural fit for LemonLime. Zietz says his original post was \u201chalf-and-half\u201d earnest, serving as something of a test for cultural alignment. He didn\u2019t want people to feel obligated to get tattoos. But he did want people to see the tattoo station and think that what LemonLime was doing was \u201cout there.\u201d Then he wanted them to make a judgement call: Did they love it or did they hate it?<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">If partygoers were turned off by the tattoo station, they probably wouldn\u2019t be a good fit for the startup, he reasons. Sure!<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Zietz is trying to hire people who appreciate what he calls his \u201ceccentric\u201d approach to life.
