Netflix plans to shut down two of its gaming studios, as reported by Game File<\/a><\/em> and Variety<\/a><\/em>, as it makes a bigger shift toward party games and titles streamed to TVs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

One of the studios being shut down is Night School Studio, creators of the Oxenfree<\/em> series. Netflix bought Night School in 2021<\/a>, and it just released<\/a> a horror experience called Unhinged<\/em> for TVs and launched a mobile game in 2025 tied to Black Mirror<\/em><\/a>. The other studio that\u2019s set to close is Helsinki-based Moonloot Games, which was created in 2022.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Netflix\u2019s big push into TV-based games kicked off late last year<\/a> and was a pivot from a mobile-focused approach that featured prestige indie titles. But Netflix has let many of those indie hits leave its mobile lineup<\/a> as it focuses instead on four pillars<\/a> of kids, party, narrative, and \u201cmainstream\u201d games.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cAs we continue to prioritize these areas, we see an opportunity to be more focused in our execution, so we are making organizational changes to the business to match those priorities,\u201d Netflix spokesperson Chrissy Kelleher tells The Verge<\/em>. Netflix is also eliminating \u201csome\u201d additional roles in its games business, according to Kelleher. The cuts include Tara Voelker, who says<\/a> she was the \u201csingle accessibility person\u201d on the gaming team.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
