The FTC and Zillow have announced a settlement that ends the case alleging that a 2025 \u201cpartnership\u201d<\/a> between Zillow and Redfin violated antitrust laws. The FTC had alleged Zillow agreed to pay Redfin to syndicate its listings, while Redfin would end its own advertising contracts and promise not to compete with Zillow for multifamily listings.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The FTC\u2019s settlement proposal<\/a> allows Redfin to continue syndicating rental listings from Zillow \u201cunencumbered by the anticompetitive restraints\u201d in the original deal, but also requires Redfin to restart its own rental listings advertising business, which it wound down as part of the partnership.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Daniel Guarnera, director of the FTC\u2019s Bureau of Competition, said the deal \u201cdelivers better, quicker, more certain results for both renters and property management companies than we would have been able to achieve after prevailing at trial.\u201d The state attorneys general of Arizona, Connecticut, New York, Virginia and Washington also agreed to the proposed settlement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

This ending also follows other recent settlements from the Trump administration in high-profile cases of companies behaving badly, like the Live Nation-Ticketmaster<\/a> case, and its case against Realpage<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
