Alex Himel, Meta\u2019s vice president of augmented reality, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.threads.com\/@ahimel\/post\/DcjTatTGyn-\">writes in a post on Threads<\/a> that \u201cthe camera will now stop working if the light is covered during a recording.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">The company\u2019s line of smart glasses already disables their built-in cameras if someone covers the LED capture light, which blinks to alert others that you\u2019re recording or taking a picture. However, some wearers found that they can bypass these restrictions by covering the LED light <em>after<\/em> they started recording. This latest fix comes a little over a month after Meta <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/gadgets\/962514\/meta-privacy-light-tampering-smart-glasses-update\">updated its glasses to turn off its camera<\/a> when wearers physically tamper with the capture light.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">\u201cWe\u2019re going to keep rolling out updates like this to make sure the capture LED can reliably alert bystanders when photos or videos are being captured for someone\u2019s gallery,\u201d Himel writes. \u201cOnly a tiny minority of people try to get around these protections, and the fact they have to go to these lengths shows our efforts are working.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">But now, Meta is trying to spread \u201cawareness\u201d about its LED capture light by launching its own campaign in communities \u201cwhere glasses sales have been popular,\u201d Meta spokesperson Albert Aydin tells <em>The Verge<\/em>. One billboard, which is currently up in Los Angeles, shows Meta\u2019s smart glasses alongside a caption that says, \u201cThe camera lets you capture the moment.
