I love a period drama<\/a>, so I was thrilled to discover My Brilliant Career<\/a> on Netflix. Set in early 1900s Australia, the six-part series follows a rebellious teenager who dreams of becoming a writer, but thanks to her father\u2019s debts, she\u2019s expected instead to marry well and save her family. There\u2019s a love triangle and thoughtful plot points about race and sexuality, but it\u2019s also genuinely funny \u2014 I watched three episodes in one night and laughed out loud multiple times. Some reviews call it frenetic and silly, but maybe that\u2019s exactly why I\u2019m loving it?<\/p>\n

\"switzy<\/p>\n

This month, I also found myself smack in the middle of a reading slump \u2014 I kept starting books, then putting them down a couple days later, indifferent. But then I cracked an advance copy of Switzy<\/a>, Emma Cline\u2019s new novel about a retired executive with dementia (September 8th). OH MY GOD. I can\u2019t stop reading full paragraphs to Freddie. Absolutely blown away. (We\u2019re now planning an interview with the author, and I also went into the CoJ archives to re-read this relevant interview<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

\"leopard<\/p>\n

What are you wearing these days? I\u2019m into leopard print right now, like this easy dress<\/a>. Three more pretty pieces: sweater<\/a>, scarf<\/a>, and shoes<\/a>.<\/p>\n
