Now the company is pushing back against those allegations, saying that \u201cSome recent media coverage may have contributed to misconceptions about how LG smart TVs work.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">LG <a href=\"https:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/links\/8836598\/type\/dlg\/https:\/\/www.lg.com\/global\/newsroom\/news\/statements\/statement-understanding-privacy-on-lg-smart-tvs\/\" rel=\"sponsored\">released a statement<\/a> in which it claims that its \u201cTVs do not continuously record or transmit users\u2019 conversations,\u201d and that wake-word detection is all processed locally. However, the word \u201ccontinuously\u201d is doing a lot of heavy lifting here as Gamers Nexus demonstrated an LG TV keeping extensive logs of ambient conversations long after one would assume its AI assistant had stopped listening.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">LG also said that its features like \u201cAutomatic Content Recognition (ACR), voice recognition, and interest-based advertising are optional,\u201d and \u201cnot enabled by default.\u201d The company says that:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<blockquote class=\"duet--article--blockquote _1lkuyz82 _1lkuyz80 _19wv7tc9\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup _1lkuyz89 _1lkuyz88 _19wv7tc1\">ACR uses audio fingerprinting technology using the TV\u2019s internal audio processor (not a speaker) to identify content and does not collect screenshots, screen recordings, video recordings, voice recordings, or other audio recordings from the TV.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">The company did not address broader concerns about how much data it collects, who it shares it with, the potential for bad actors to exploit its features, or the misleading way in which its privacy options are presented.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/tech\/994333\/lg-responds-to-tv-spying-allegations\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier this week, Gamers Nexus, Level1Techs, and independent security researchers detailed some alarming findings about how LG\u2019s TVs are logging and uploading data on its users.
