Waymo says it is \u201cworking toward offering fully autonomous ride-hailing to the public\u201d by 2028.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Waymo will need approval from Singapore\u2019s Land Transport Authority (LTA) before it can begin accepting passengers. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lta.gov.sg\/content\/ltagov\/en\/industry_innovations\/technologies\/autonomous_vehicles.html\">The city-state requires<\/a> all autonomous vehicles to undergo a safety assessment conducted at the Centre of Excellence for Testing and Research (CETRAN) before they can be deployed on public roads. The tests have been developed by LTA and CETRAN, with input from the Traffic Police. But Waymo isn\u2019t totally unknown in Singapore. The company established <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sgpbusiness.com\/company\/Waymo-Singapore-Pte-Ltd\">a corporate entity there<\/a> earlier this year and participates in Singapore\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weride.ai\/posts\/uwpo6lysiu6i9lg4egiifj86\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Steering Committee on Autonomous Vehicles<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Singapore has become a hotbed for autonomous vehicle testing. <a href=\"https:\/\/restofworld.org\/2024\/singapore-self-driving-vehicles\/\">The local authorities have green-lit<\/a> autonomous freight delivery and road-sweepers, as well as self-driving buses for airport workers. Motional, a US-based company majority owned by Hyundai, conducted a robotaxi pilot in Singapore in 2016.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">In addition to Singapore, Waymo has said it plans on launching a robotaxi service in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/799259\/waymo-london-robotaxi-launch-2026\">London<\/a> by the end of 2026, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/transportation\/995408\/waymo-says-it-will-launch-in-japan-in-2027\">Tokyo in 2027<\/a>. The company has also said it will bring its robotaxis to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/transportation\/984369\/how-do-you-say-robotaxi-in-german\">Munich, Germany<\/a>, in late 2027, marking its first expansion in the European Union.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">\u201cSingapore has built one of the safest, most efficient, and most forward-thinking transportation ecosystems in the world,\u201d Waymo co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana said in a statement. \u201cTheir focus on reliability, sustainability, and human-centric progress directly mirrors how we have built Waymo\u2019s technology and service.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">This year, Waymo has announced several new domestic markets, including Nashville, Denver, San Diego, and Las Vegas.
