{"id":739,"date":"2026-05-22T23:10:59","date_gmt":"2026-05-22T23:10:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/silvybrand.com\/?p=739"},"modified":"2026-05-22T23:10:59","modified_gmt":"2026-05-22T23:10:59","slug":"meta-forum-facebook-groups-app-hands-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/silvybrand.com\/?p=739","title":{"rendered":"Meta\u2019s Forum is part Reddit, part Facebook, and part Google AI Overview"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Meta\u2019s new Forum app<a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/forum-a-facebook-app\/id6758308862\"> for iPhones<\/a> takes Facebook Groups and moves them to a dedicated app with a dedicated AI chatbot to go with it, like an AI revamp of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2017\/8\/9\/16118042\/facebook-groups-app-no-more\">ill-fated Groups app<\/a> Facebook shut down in 2017.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Rather than going to ChatGPT or tacking \u201cReddit\u201d onto the end of a Google search, Forum users can view, search for, and post advice directly in their Facebook groups, with optional help from Meta\u2019s AI.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">After logging in with my Facebook account, Forum automatically pulled in the groups I was part of on Facebook and populated my feed with posts from those groups, along with suggestions from groups I\u2019m not part of, similar to my Reddit feed, although without Reddit\u2019s pseudonymity.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Groups aren\u2019t front-and-center in Facebook, so I wasn\u2019t surprised to find some on my list that I had completely forgotten about. Aside from the feed, you can also view a mini version of your Facebook profile that just shows your group posts, browse new groups, and post directly to specific groups.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Forum\u2019s AI chatbot lives under the \u201cAsk\u201d tab, where you can get AI-generated responses pulling from posts to various Facebook groups, similar to the way Google\u2019s search results and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/tech\/924993\/google-ai-search-mode-overviews-update-reddit-links\">AI overviews<\/a> pull from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/780769\/reddit-ai-google-new-deal\">Reddit content it licenses<\/a> and other sources on the internet.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">To try it out, I asked the AI a few questions about <em>Magic: The Gathering<\/em>. Meta\u2019s chatbot referenced posts from a couple of <em>Magic<\/em> groups I\u2019m in and gave generally sound advice, with suggestions for groups in my area of New Jersey.
