Its chief product officer, chief people officer, head of public policy, head of design for Claude, head of platform engineering, head of product for coding, head of product for research labs, and head of \u201cpersonality alignment\u201d for AI models (yes, that\u2019s a thing) are all women.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">(More recently, another woman close to Anthropic has emerged as something of a power player. According to The Information and The Wall Street Journal, Dario\u2019s longtime partner, Cami Clark\u2014who reportedly tried to get Jeffrey Epstein to invest in her porn company\u2014was instrumental in connecting him with some of Anthropic\u2019s early financial backers.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">In a June interview with Bloomberg\u2019s Emily Chang, the Amodeis revealed that Dario largely sidesteps having direct reports, while Daniela runs the day-to-day operations. All of the leadership team reports to Daniela. \u201cThat sounds like a pretty sweet job,\u201d Chang said to Dario, her brows raised. \u201cIt\u2019s incredibly freeing,\u201d Dario replied, with his trademark enthusiasm. \u201cIt lets me do all the things that I do, much more easily than I would otherwise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">\u201cAnd she does all the work?\u201d Chang replied. Dario faltered in his response.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">I asked Daniela what she makes of Chang\u2019s points and the responses they elicited. (\u201cI saw that interview, and it just showed me how much Dario thinks he\u2019s a special boy,\u201d a friend in one of my group chats fumed.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">\u201cDario and I very much run the company together,\u201d Amodei insisted. \u201cI think everyone who knows the company really well or works here knows it\u2019s a two-person ship.\u201d She believes it would be hard for one person to run a company at the \u201clevel of consequence\u201d of Anthropic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Daniela has amassed considerable financial, intellectual, and cultural capital. She is not, however, the face of Anthropic\u2019s political agenda. That\u2019s her brother and, more recently, Anthropic cofounder Tom Brown.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">\u201cI worked on Capitol Hill before, and I know enough to be dangerous,\u201d she told me. \u201cI do go to Washington, and I think it\u2019s a matter of what\u2019s happening in the headlines versus behind the scenes.\u201d She engages on topics like trust and safety or how AI will impact future generations\u2014things viewed \u201cnot necessarily as the most sexy,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">And who arbitrates the \u201cmost sexy\u201d issues in artificial intelligence? We already know the answer to that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\"><span class=\"lead-in-text-callout\">With her fleet<\/span> of women executives and her stated ethos of non-gendered AI, Amodei may emerge as a historic figure in Silicon Valley, depending on the fate of her company. What she\u2019s built may signal a new era of corporate culture and achievement for women. But when I asked other people if the AI boom presents ample opportunities for women, their outlook was less rosy.
