The decision reverses the Destiny Content Vault that Bungie created six years ago, controversially removing older content from <em>Destiny 2<\/em> that players had paid to access.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">\u201cWe understand that removing these experiences had a lasting impact on player trust and enjoyment of <em>Destiny<\/em>,\u201d admits Bungie. \u201cWe cannot change the decision we made, but we can acknowledge its impact and do the work to make it right by restoring these important parts of <em>Destiny<\/em>\u2019s history.\u201c<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">All <em>Destiny 2 <\/em>players will get access to the vaulted content, but it\u2019s not a simple switch of a button for Bungie. The developer made big changes to <em>Destiny 2 <\/em>with the <em>Beyond Light<\/em> expansion, meaning it has to go back and update lighting, encounters, combatants, and other underlying systems for this older content. \u201cThat work will take time, but it is necessary to ensure returning content meets the stability and gameplay standards of <em>Destiny 2<\/em> today,\u201d says Bungie.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">The decision to return this content to <em>Destiny 2<\/em> comes just weeks after a \u201cSunrise\u201d <em>Destiny 2<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/stanuwu\/Sunrise\">offline preservation mod<\/a> appeared. The mod lets players access older areas in <em>Destiny 2<\/em> that had been vaulted, but not the exact campaigns and missions that players had experienced previously.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Bungie now says its own restoration project is the \u201cfirst step to lay the foundation for how we reforge into new stories and games that you all deserve.\u201d Could that be a <em>Destiny 3<\/em> sequel? There\u2019s no mention of such a project, despite fans desperately pleading for a successor to <em>Destiny 2<\/em> in multiple high-profile Twitch streams in recent weeks. Bungie is only committing to building a \u201cstronger long-term future for Destiny\u201d right now.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Alongside the <em>Destiny 2<\/em> efforts, Bungie is also admitting that <em>Marathon<\/em>, its extraction shooter, didn\u2019t \u201creach as many players as we had hoped, and we also know and understand that the game needs to evolve.\u201d That means <em>Marathon <\/em>will expand deeper into a survival experience.
