On their first date, Madison and Jason talked all about movies. A few months into dating, they got a theater membership and began seeing movies together almost every week. But recently, at a cinema in Manhattan, something unusual happened\u2026<\/p>\n

\"movie<\/p>\n

Madison<\/strong>: We had a very normal morning and went to Hani\u2019s Bakery<\/a> for pastries. The only thing that stood out to me was that I\u2019ve been encouraging Jason to get new sneakers, and the day before we got engaged, he got a brand new pair.<\/p>\n

\"movie<\/p>\n

Jason<\/strong>: I had a couple of movie-related ideas for the proposal, but the marquee was the best one. I called Village East<\/a> about my idea, and they could not have been nicer. That weekend, I told Madison that we were going to see the 25th-anniversary screening of Legally Blonde<\/em> and that we were going to dinner with friends afterward so that she would dress up a bit.<\/p>\n

Madison<\/strong>: He\u2019d barely stepped out of the taxi before he got down on one knee.<\/p>\n

\"movie<\/p>\n

Jason<\/strong>: I wanted to say something like, \u2018Madison, I love you so much, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.\u2019 And maybe, \u2018Our life is like the best movie,\u2019 even though she probably would have laughed at that last line.<\/p>\n

\"movie<\/p>\n

Jason<\/strong>: It\u2019s true that you do kind of black out. I forgot everything I\u2019d prepared to say except, \u2018Will you marry me?\u2019<\/p>\n

\"movie<\/p>\n

Madison<\/strong>: After I said yes, all our relatives came rushing out. They\u2019d been hiding in the lobby, watching the proposal.<\/p>\n

\"movie<\/p>\n

Jason<\/strong>: I\u2019d thought about the public-ness of the proposal because we\u2019re not a couple that loves attention. But the marquee was just so perfect that I was like, Okay, even if it is\u00a0a little public, it\u2019s worth it.<\/em><\/p>\n

Madison<\/strong>: It also didn\u2019t feel too public because it was a rainy day. And the marquee was such a great idea \u2014\u00a0it felt very \u2018us.\u2019<\/p>\n

Jason<\/strong>: When we went inside, the theater employees told us that while they\u2019ve done marquee proposals before, this was the first time they\u2019d actually seen the proposal happen. They were all really excited.<\/p>\n

Jason<\/strong>: Nowadays, friends who pass the movie theater will sometimes text a photo. It\u2019s like our own little landmark.<\/p>\n

Madison<\/strong>: The final scene of Bridesmaids<\/em> when they sing \u2018Hold On\u2019 with Wilson Phillips<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Favorite older rom-coms?\u00a0<\/strong>
Jason<\/strong>:\u00a0When Harry Met Sally\u00a0<\/em>and Moonstruck<\/em>.
Madison<\/strong>: Ten Things I Hate About You<\/em>.<\/p>\n

What have you learned about love from rom-coms?<\/strong>
Madison<\/strong>: Find the right person at the right time (500 Days of Summer<\/em>), marry your best friend (13 Going On 30<\/em>), and stick with each other through all seasons of life (When Harry Met Sally<\/em>).<\/p>\n
