Microsoft is launching a second generation of its Surface Mouse next month that includes haptic feedback support. The Surface Mouse also has a customizable action button for the first time, which is primarily designed for quick access to Copilot (of course<\/a>), but can be configured to work with other shortcuts from the Surface app.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cIts haptic feedback adds a small, purposeful physical response to the moment you usually only see on a screen: a click registering, a window snapping into place or an object aligning just right,\u201d says Brett Ostrum<\/a>, corporate vice president of Surface Devices. \u201cIt is subtle by design, but noticeable within seconds \u2014 and hard to give up once you have it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The haptic feedback works with things like clicks, drags, and alignment throughout Windows 11, but the tactile feedback also triggers in apps like PowerPoint, Affinity, Concepts, and Filmora. Microsoft added support for haptic feedback in Windows 11 earlier this year<\/a>, and so far it\u2019s mainly Microsoft and Logitech that are supporting it with dedicated hardware. Logitech\u2019s MX Master 4<\/a> has haptic feedback, and its Pro X2 Superstrike<\/a> (and today\u2019s new X3<\/a>) includes a haptic-based clicks system that doesn\u2019t support the Windows 11 haptic feedback. The upcoming Surface Laptop Ultra also has a haptic trackpad.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

After originally launching the Surface Mouse in 2016 and not updating it since, Microsoft has now redesigned it to be more comfortable for all-day use, with a soft-touch material at the top. Thanks to Bluetooth 6.0 support, you can now also pair it with up to three devices.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
