{"id":7624,"date":"2026-09-24T23:59:31","date_gmt":"2026-09-24T23:59:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/silvybrand.com\/?p=7624"},"modified":"2026-09-24T23:59:31","modified_gmt":"2026-09-24T23:59:31","slug":"meta-instagram-attorney-client-privilege-hats","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/silvybrand.com\/?p=7624","title":{"rendered":"Meta employees ordered \u2018attorney\/client privilege\u2019 hats while fighting child safety disclosures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">The lawyers suing Meta <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/65407433\/in-re-social-media-adolescent-addictionpersonal-injury-products-liability\/?filed_after=&amp;filed_before=&amp;entry_gte=&amp;entry_lte=&amp;order_by=desc#entry-3509\">argue<\/a> the Project Nido (an internal name for the Teen Accounts team) swag is part of \u201cculture of privilege abuse at Meta\u201d aimed at keeping the research it\u2019s conducted internally on teen harm out of the public eye, an issue <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/tech\/personal-tech\/facebook-knows-instagram-is-toxic-for-teen-girls-company-documents-show-11631620739?mod=hp_lead_pos7,article_inline\">that Mark Zuckerberg discussed<\/a> after internal data on Instagram\u2019s effects leaked in 2021.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">US District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers already called some of Meta\u2019s privilege redactions \u201centirely inappropriate\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/65407433\/in-re-social-media-adolescent-addictionpersonal-injury-products-liability\/?filed_after=&amp;filed_before=&amp;entry_gte=&amp;entry_lte=&amp;order_by=desc#entry-3450\">in an order last month<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">She pointed out one example where Meta\u2019s lawyers tried to cast a discussion about a slide deck and whether or not to publish certain data as a discussion of attorney legal advice, deciding that based on testimony from the trial, their reticence about publishing was more of a business decision focused on preventing leaks.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Meta de-designated about 65,000 previously withheld or redacted documents in April 2025, after discovery, which the plaintiffs say came too late for them to use in depositions.
