The labels claim its new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/ai-artificial-intelligence\/991977\/suno-releases-its-first-ai-music-model-made-with-record-industry-help\">v6<\/a> model still infringes on their copyrights because it\u2019s trained on user outputs from previous models, which were themselves trained on unlicensed music ripped from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/ai-artificial-intelligence\/994036\/suno-admits-it-scraped-audio-from-youtube-in-a-court-filing\">YouTube<\/a> and other sources. Sony and UMG are notable holdouts who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/ai-artificial-intelligence\/908119\/suno-sony-universal-music-ai-disagreement\">did not sign a licensing agreement<\/a> with Suno.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">In its complaint shared with <em>The Verge<\/em>, Sony and UMG accuse Suno of \u201cmodel laundering,\u201d saying:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<blockquote class=\"duet--article--blockquote _1lkuyz82 _1lkuyz80 _19wv7tc9\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup _1lkuyz89 _1lkuyz88 _19wv7tc1\">\u201cTraining a \u2018new\u2019 model on the outputs of an infringing model does not eliminate the infringement; it launders it, passing the value of Plaintiffs\u2019 expression from the copied recordings into the tainted models, from those models into their outputs, and from those outputs into v6 \u2026 V6 is not a fresh start; it is the fruit of the same poisoned tree.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">When v6 launched, Suno\u2019s Jack Brody told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/ai-artificial-intelligence\/991977\/suno-releases-its-first-ai-music-model-made-with-record-industry-help\"><em>The Verge<\/em><\/a> it was \u201ctrained from the ground up, with a new set of data,\u201d including \u201cuser data,\u201d but did not offer details beyond that. Suno spokesperson Rachel Racusen later confirmed to <em>The Verge<\/em> that data includes \u201ccreations\u201d from users, saying, \u201cv6 was trained on content licensed from our partners, interactions including creations and preference signals from our community, and the accumulated learnings from our team,\u201d but did not specify whether that included uploaded audio or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/ai-artificial-intelligence\/906896\/sunos-copyright-ai-music-covers\">outputs based on uploaded audio<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Sony further alleges that Suno used distillation to train v6.
