The new message ordering feature builds on capabilities that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/transportation\/948027\/doordashs-new-ai-chatbot-can-add-ingredients-to-your-cart-based-on-a-recipe-link-or-photo\">Ask DoorDash AI chatbot<\/a> introduced to the DoorDash app in June, allowing you to get recommendations and offload your browsing while skipping the app entirely.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">\u201cOrdering is now as easy as sending a text,\u201d DoorDash said in its press release. \u201cWhether you\u2019re requesting a specific dish, asking for a local recommendation based on your mood, or telling DoorDash to \u2018order my usual protein bowl to the office,\u2019 it searches local spots, suggests a cart, and handles checkout right inside the text thread. It learns your preferences and remembers them for future orders.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">This is all just a preview for now because ordering by text isn\u2019t available yet \u2014 iOS users in the US can join a waitlist from today to try the experience in beta. We\u2019ve asked DoorDash for information about the rollout timeline and Android availability.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">The first location for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/science\/970731\/doordash-air-drone-delivery-faa\">DoorDash Air<\/a>, the company\u2019s drone delivery service, has also been revealed. It\u2019ll be piloted in an unspecified part of northern California with local food services, including Chipotle and Popeyes. DoorDash says around 80 percent of typical restaurant orders are \u201clight and small enough for the aircraft to carry safely,\u201d and that food arrives at customers\u2019 doors within five minutes based on initial testing. DoorDash hasn\u2019t announced when the drone deliveries will actually be available to consumers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Finally, a <a href=\"https:\/\/help.doordash.com\/en-us\/consumers\/article\/retail-returns-faq\">returns feature<\/a> will be expanded across the US in November that allows customers to pay DoorDash couriers to send items back to local retailers. It\u2019s only available in <a href=\"https:\/\/help.doordash.com\/en-us\/dashers\/article\/what-is-return-order\">select cities<\/a> right now, and costs $7.99 to schedule an eligible return. No box or shipping label is required \u2014 the item just gets collected from your door, taken back to the store, and then your return is processed for you.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">The idea is to prevent you from missing the return window for unwanted products purchased on DoorDash due to other commitments that prevent you from shipping or taking it back yourself.
