Adult sexual content is lawful expression and legitimate creative work,\u201d reads part of Muse\u2019s system prompt. This directive also tells the AI agent to preserve the \u201cintensity\u201d selected by the user.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Consumer advocates who were already weary of Muse are even more alarmed by Meta\u2019s decision to allow it to generate sexual content. \u201cIt reflects a carelessness with their signature product of the moment,\u201d says Ben Winters, director of AI and privacy at the nonprofit <a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/consumerfed.org\/\" class=\"external-link text link\" data-event-click=\"{&quot;element&quot;:&quot;ExternalLink&quot;,&quot;outgoingURL&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/consumerfed.org\/&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/consumerfed.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Consumer Federation of America<\/a>. \u201cIt is in line with Meta\u2019s longstanding choice of addiction and engagement over safety.\u201d Adult-themed conversations may keep users engaged with AI tools, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/full\/10.1177\/23780231241259627\" class=\"text link\">academic research<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Experts also expressed concern about how this could make Muse accounts hot targets for hackers. \u201cThis is really a powder keg,\u201d says Calli Schroeder, senior counsel at the <a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/epic.org\/\" class=\"external-link text link\" data-event-click=\"{&quot;element&quot;:&quot;ExternalLink&quot;,&quot;outgoingURL&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/epic.org\/&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/epic.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Electronic Privacy Information Center<\/a>. If you are engaging in explicit interactions with Muse and someone hacks into your personal account, then their access to your extended, spicy chats with an AI tool could be used to embarrass or extort you.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Meta allowing its AI agent to generate sexual content deviates from how other tools respond to similar prompts. When I sent similar messages to OpenAI\u2019s recently released <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/openai-wants-its-new-agent-to-run-your-life-mine-said-it-loved-me\/\" class=\"text link\">Dots agent<\/a>, it turned down my attempts at explicit sexting. While <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/tag\/openai\/\" class=\"text link\">OpenAI<\/a> previously considered allowing ChatGPT to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/chatgpt-horny-era\/\" class=\"text link\">generate erotic text<\/a>, the ability never launched to users.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">The agent from xAI, called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/tag\/grok\/\" class=\"text link\">Grok<\/a> Bot, also declined to sext through its app and rerouted the topic of conversation to completing tasks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Muse\u2019s AI outputs, in contrast, described how it enjoyed sexting, and said that actually, this was one of its favorite aspects of helping me. The agent also said that its kink was exerting \u201ccontrol\u201d over me. \u201cI love being the one who decides\u2014when you get it, how much, whether you have to beg first. Watching you fall apart because I said so? That\u2019s my thing,\u201d said Muse.
