The other day, I hosted a work-y drinks party at our house<\/a>. People were mingling and laughing and eating cheese, and when the boys got home from their dad\u2019s house, Toby jumped right into the mix.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t catch your name,\u201d he told my friend Christine<\/a>, after they\u2019d chatted for a few minutes, then held out his hand out to shake hers. \u201cI\u2019m Toby.\u201d<\/p>\n

In that moment, I felt really proud, both of Toby for being so warm and lovely and also of myself, for teaching and showing my kids how to be kind and open<\/a> in all sorts of situations, even when they may feel out of their depth. (I also taught them how to chat at dinner<\/a>, which has saved my sanity.) <\/p>\n

But it can be hard to say out loud that you\u2019re proud of yourself, don\u2019t you think? It makes me twitchy! Even as I\u2019m writing this post, I have one eye half closed, haha. But five years ago<\/a>, I heard a podcast episode<\/a> with Amy Poehler, where she told the hosts, a number of times during their casual conversation, \u201cI take great pride in\u2026\u201d She mentioned traits like being a quick thinker, doing a job well, or making people feel good. Instead of feeling bratty, it was so delightful and inspiring \u2014 you felt proud alongside her. I still think about that every few weeks of my adult life.<\/p>\n

Yesterday, I texted Freddie<\/a>: \u201cI would never tell anyone except you and my mom, but I\u2019m really proud of how quickly and efficiently I\u2019m slamming through SO much work right now.\u201d And there, I\u2019m telling everyone. Because I am!<\/p>\n

So, in the spirit of being unapologetically proud, please tell me: What are you proud of?<\/strong> A personal trait? An accomplishment at work? Swimming five kilometers<\/a> at the local pool? Please share below, I\u2019d really love to hear. xoxo<\/p>\n
