Snap has a new brand ambassador for its Specs AR glasses: Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr. The company has brought on Downey as Specs\u2019 \u201cChief Customer Experience Officer\u201d and has published several videos featuring Downey showcasing the capabilities of the new glasses, including as a tool to get help with a putt<\/a>, practice art<\/a>, and watch a private video<\/a> of an MMA match in bed. In one video<\/a>, he also dumps the contents of a box labeled \u201cAI glasses\u201d into a trash bin \u2014 a shot at Meta\u2019s popular smart glasses.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

As part of the partnership, Downey will \u201cwork alongside the SPECS team to explore how augmented reality can improve the way people live and work, from everyday experiences in entertainment and education to specialized uses across medicine, engineering, and manufacturing,\u201d according to a blog post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cTrying is believing,\u201d Downey says in a statement. \u201cHaving tested practically every wearable tech that\u2019s come to market in the last 20 years, and been largely unimpressed, I was absolutely sold on SPECS within 40 seconds.\u201d Snap has other celebrities<\/a> on board to help promote Specs, too, including musician Imogen Heap and NBA star Jimmy Butler.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
