The organization\u2019s Texas registration contains no information about its work, and the group does not appear to have a web presence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">But the presence of Johnston and Adams on the board is telling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">In Georgia, Adams has made a name for herself by <a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2024\/sep\/18\/trump-election-georgia\" class=\"external-link text link\" data-event-click=\"{&quot;element&quot;:&quot;ExternalLink&quot;,&quot;outgoingURL&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2024\/sep\/18\/trump-election-georgia&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2024\/sep\/18\/trump-election-georgia\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pushing Trump\u2019s conspiracies<\/a> about widespread election fraud and has sued multiple times for access to voting records <a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/politics\/politics-features\/trump-think-tank-lawsuit-election-officials-refuse-certify-results-1235032235\/\" class=\"external-link text link\" data-event-click=\"{&quot;element&quot;:&quot;ExternalLink&quot;,&quot;outgoingURL&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/politics\/politics-features\/trump-think-tank-lawsuit-election-officials-refuse-certify-results-1235032235\/&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/politics\/politics-features\/trump-think-tank-lawsuit-election-officials-refuse-certify-results-1235032235\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">with the help of the Republican National Committee<\/a>. She has refused to certify results without being allowed to inspect voting records.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Johnston recently left Georgia\u2019s State Election Board for what she said were \u201cfamily and personal responsibility\u201d reasons, and her time there was marked by turmoil, partisanship, and legal battles based on false fraud claims. Under her direction, the election board pursued specious investigations of Fulton County, supported mass voter purges championed by election denial activists, and worked to effectively eliminate voting machines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Adams and Johnston have long targeted Fulton County for supposed fraud, and gleefully celebrated when, in January, the FBI raided an elections warehouse there, seizing tens of thousands of ballots from the 2020 election. Johnston was one of the unnamed witnesses in the FBI affidavit that preceded the raid, providing information about alleged double-counted ballots to the agency that had already been investigated and proven to have had no effect on the outcome of the 2020 election.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">The Justice Department briefly fought in court to keep her name hidden from public view, but described a witness in the affidavit as \u201ca Republican-appointed member\u201d of the State Election Board who previously \u201cwas an obstetrician,\u201d which identified Johnston. As the raid was being carried out, Johnston went live on Steve Bannon\u2019s <em>War Room<\/em> podcast from an SUV parked nearby.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">When asked about Johnston\u2019s presence on the board of the new Musk-linked election denial organization, Sara Tindall Ghazal, the lone Democrat on the Georgia State Election Board and Johnston\u2019s former colleague, replied, \u201clol.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">\u201cI mean this quite seriously, \u2018lol.\u2019 That\u2019s my comment,\u201d she tells WIRED.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">And while Musk has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/elon-musk-is-almost-single-handedly-funding-the-republicans-midterms-push\/\" class=\"text link\">quietly increased<\/a> his political funding of Republicans, he has taken a bit of a step back from publicly discussing or posting about US politics and elections\u2014with the exception of Talarico.
