As part of its Q3 2026 earnings, Reddit <a href=\"https:\/\/s203.q4cdn.com\/380862485\/files\/doc_financials\/2026\/q3\/v2\/Q3-26-Shareholder-Letter.pdf\">revealed that<\/a> search traffic in October has \u201cdropped by more than 1 million referrals on average per week,\u201d and he attributes part of the company\u2019s struggles with Google traffic to how AI Mode and AI Overviews change the search experience.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">\u201cThe reality is, AI Mode does not drive traffic,\u201d Huffman says. \u201cNot for us, and not to anybody, as far as I know. That\u2019s just a fundamental shift in how Google works. It used to be a traffic driver, now it\u2019s not.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">He says that AI Overviews and AI Mode have \u201cevolved a lot\u201d and now, at a \u201cminimum,\u201d push \u201ceveryone down the search page.\u201d Huffman also says that Reddit believes its content that\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/redditinc.com\/news\/bringing-reddit-to-more-people-around-the-world-machine-learning-powered-localization-and-translation-launching-in-more-than-35-new-countries\">machine-translated into other languages<\/a> is being ranked lower in search results, which he says would primarily affect the company outside the US.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">However, Reddit is still a \u201ctop search term in Google,\u201d Huffman says. \u201cThis doesn\u2019t say anything about the internet consumers\u2019 demand for Reddit. People still want Reddit.
