But that bold assertion soon started to unravel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">DHS officials had also claimed that there were 15,903 noncitizens on Nevada\u2019s voter rolls, but then <a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/09\/24\/us\/politics\/nevada-voters-homeland-security-trump.html\" class=\"external-link text link\" data-event-click=\"{&quot;element&quot;:&quot;ExternalLink&quot;,&quot;outgoingURL&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/09\/24\/us\/politics\/nevada-voters-homeland-security-trump.html&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/09\/24\/us\/politics\/nevada-voters-homeland-security-trump.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">later conceded<\/a> in a meeting with Nevada officials that they didn\u2019t have evidence. The number of suspected noncitizens on voter rolls then dropped down to 185, but there was no evidence to support that claim either.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">\u201cAs for the 185 individuals, our records indicate that they were citizens,\u201d Nevada\u2019s Deputy Attorney General Greg Ott <a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/www.democracydocket.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/voter-roll-letter-to-dhs.pdf\" class=\"external-link text link\" data-event-click=\"{&quot;element&quot;:&quot;ExternalLink&quot;,&quot;outgoingURL&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/www.democracydocket.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/voter-roll-letter-to-dhs.pdf&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.democracydocket.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/voter-roll-letter-to-dhs.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">wrote in a letter<\/a> to DHS. \u201cYou have provided nothing of substance to suggest otherwise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">\u201cThe Department accessed publicly available data from states\u2019 voter rolls and cross referenced them with known illegal aliens in our systems,\u201d a DHS spokesperson tells WIRED about the situation. \u201cIt\u2019s not rocket science; it\u2019s an easy step to secure our elections.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Ott added in the letter that while Nevada takes allegations of noncitizen voting seriously, \u201cit also has a strong interest in preventing the wrongful disenfranchisement of voters\u201d and is \u201ccommitted to preventing the chilling effect on the right to vote from taking actions based on unfounded and unverifiable allegations of noncitizen voting.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"paywall\">Washington<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Last week, the DOJ <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-wdwa\/pr\/federal-data-shows-hundreds-non-citizens-registered-vote-washington\" class=\"text link\">claimed<\/a> that federal data appeared to show that 400 noncitizens were registered to vote in the state of Washington and demanded that officials isolate those ballots, describing them as \u201cthe tip of the iceberg.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">They received another withering letter in return: \u201cThe timing of your letter is profoundly disappointing,\u201d <a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/www.sos.wa.gov\/about-office\/news\/2026\/washington-secretary-state-steve-hobbs-response-doj-letter-about-voter-rolls\" class=\"external-link text link\" data-event-click=\"{&quot;element&quot;:&quot;ExternalLink&quot;,&quot;outgoingURL&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/www.sos.wa.gov\/about-office\/news\/2026\/washington-secretary-state-steve-hobbs-response-doj-letter-about-voter-rolls&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sos.wa.gov\/about-office\/news\/2026\/washington-secretary-state-steve-hobbs-response-doj-letter-about-voter-rolls\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">wrote<\/a> Washington Secretary of State Steve Hobbs. \u201cIf you had valid concerns about voter registrations, the time to raise them was a month ago.\u201d Hobbs added that their decision to publicly raise their concerns so close to the election was \u201cnot a sign of good faith to ensure a free, fair, and accurate election.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/the-trump-administration-is-wreaking-havoc-on-the-electoral-system-before-the-midterms\/\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Sunday, a federal judge threw out the DOJ\u2019s lawsuit, ruling that their request likely violated Alaskans&#8217; right to a secret ballot.
