This summer, we lost someone close to us. At times, I felt like I was in a horror film — I mean, people can’t just disappear! But they can, and they do, and the whole situation reminded me how everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. As a way to focus on everyday glimmers, among the harder things, here are five recent pick-me-ups, and I’d love to hear yours…
This morning, Freddie sent me this photo from his teacher desk at school. The Elmer’s glue peeking out is extremely endearing to me!
This MAN was walking around my house yesterday, and I could not believe he is the same person who once fell asleep during tummy time!
I also had a date with one of my neighborhood nieces. We made pasta (she grated parmesan like a freaking champ), played with toys, and walked to 16 Handles. Dream girls’ night!
Meanwhile, I’ve officially gotten into cooking, which thrills Freddie to no end. He’s taught me, by example, how to shop the pantry, so the other day, we made this fridge salad with chopped chicken breasts (you could use rotisserie chicken, too), feta, orzo, cucumber, a squeeze of lemon, salt and pepper, and (if you want) green onion. So easy and fresh.
Finally! A fun fall trend I keep spotting around Brooklyn? Bright green. I loved this woman’s midi skirt, and two other cute pieces are these cotton pants and this easy shirt.
