Sony PlayStation will soon have two CEOs
Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has announced a new leadership structure, with Hideaki Nishino and Hermen Hulst taking on the roles of CEO for the Platform Business Group and Studio Business Group, respectively, following the departure of Jim Ryan as SIE’s CEO in March 2024.
Nishino, who currently serves as SVP for the Platform Experience Group, will oversee SIE’s commercial operations, including sales and marketing for PlayStation hardware, services, and peripherals. He will also be responsible for the company’s work with third-party publishers and developers.
Hermen Hulst, who has been the SVP and Head of PlayStation Studios, will now be “responsible for the development, publishing, and business operations of SIE’s first-party content.” This includes overseeing the development of video game adaptations for movies and TV, such as The Last of Us.
Both Nishino and Hulst will report to Hiroki Totoki, who will serve as the interim CEO of SIE while continuing his roles as Chairman of SIE and President, COO and CFO of Sony Group Corporation.
Jim Ryan’s departure comes after he helped establish Sony’s presence in Europe and oversaw the successful launch of the PlayStation 5 during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, he cited difficulties in balancing his home life in the UK and his job located in the US as the reason for his decision to leave.
